Thanks SoCraTes.FR
It’s over but my head is still buzzing with the many presentations, interactions, ideas, conversations and laughters that we had from Thursday through Sunday at the Socratesfr conference. I had the pleasure and honor to facilitate the opening World Café and the 2 days Open Space unconference.
A glimpse of some of the sessions I attended:
- TDD technic of the double dragon
- an intriguing test/code/refactor technique that I still have to wrap my head around, I hope @Jonathan and I will find more occasions to approach it
- Feedback & thoughts on deep legacy management & culture change
- complex legacy project accross several cultures pose process, relational and personal challenges. This conversation (in the morning sun inundated patio) was rich in insights and promises
- refactor my company kata
- silos are a threat to any company, old or young, small or large, and they begin in the individuals. The fishbowl conversation made it easier to discover and elaborate on the many issues
- can craft kill a startup ?
- should we take the time to produce quality code? does quality code matter if we missed our opportunity window anyway?
- what if writing quality code takes me less time that writing crappy code?
- lightning talks
- TDD is still as far as I know the practice of a minority. So why is that there are so many TDD schools ? Btw I’m from the Helping with TDD school 😇
-
code ref…toring session I knew it was late, and some wine had been had, but the imagination of some people… I swear…
- exploring ourselves through debates
- when you want/have to win the debate, all you can think of is how to eliminate your opponent’s argument so you don’t listen any more
- when you want to cooperate, curiosity leads the debate, and you find yourself much closer to a solution to the problem
- empathy toys
- I led this session involving teams of builders and guides trying to communicate accross constraints
- debugging communication with the 4 sides model
- a practical session around the four sides communication model, with interesting debriefs of short and yet acute communication mishaps
- “Test” what about it
- I presented my ideas about tests and testing
- Property Based Driven Development Diamond Kata
- With quickcheck in Haskell. It was far from complete, but at least I could show how the tool work 😅
- the mysterious container a kata in Haskell and then in Lisp
- I presented how to create a key/value container without using any data structure at all. Some programming languages make is easier than others 😀
- the SOTA landscape workshop
- One of the participants shared the State of the art of his team, so we could have a go at this workshop that I systematically use at the outset of any intervention with a team.
